AVEVA PI Connector
Retrieves event frame and time-series tag data from AVEVA PI historians via PI Web API and streams it to Tetra.
The AVEVA PI Connector retrieves operational and process data from AVEVA PI historians and streams it to Tetra. It communicates with PI systems exclusively via the PI Web API REST interface — no additional PI client software is required on the host running the connector.
The connector supports three data collection modes, which can be used individually or in combination:
- PI Asset Framework (AF) Event Frames: polls for event frames in the configured AF database and uploads each polling cycle's event frames as a structured file to the Tetra data lake.
- PI Point tag time-series (via
tag_query): polls current and historical values for PI Points whose names match a filter pattern (for example, name:BA:*) and uploads the results to the Tetra data lake. - AF element-based tags (via
element_paths): retrieves tag data associated with specific AF element paths rather than using a name-based tag query.
You must enable at least one of these modes. Tetra won't save a connector configuration that has none of them enabled.
The connector is available in two deployment forms. The Hub or Cloud deployment runs as a container on a Tetra Hub or in the Tetra cloud, like other Pluggable Connectors, and supports basic authentication only. The Windows MSI deployment runs as a Windows service (managed by NSSM) and additionally supports Kerberos/SSPI authentication, which is required in environments where PI Web API is configured to accept only Windows-integrated authentication. Kerberos authentication is only available with the MSI deployment.
